Tastefully Simple Strives to
"Be a Champion" for United Way
Tastefully Simple recently held its annual fundraising campaign and donated a
total gift of $104,413 to the Heart of Lakes United Way!
Using
“Be a Champion” as its campaign theme, the company kicked off a week filled
with fun, fundraising and team-building activities, such as:
-
Penny Wars
– Each team filled a jar with pennies or paper currency and added silver coins
to other teams’ jars to sabotage their chances of winning. Though the team
with the most points at the end of the week won bragging rights, everybody was
a winner since all of the change was cashed in and donated to the United Way!
-
Crazy Hat
and Socks Day –
All team members were encouraged to wear their zaniest hat or socks to show
their team spirit.
-
Football
Toss – For $3,
team members were given the chance to throw a touchdown pass, and everyone who
hit the end zone received a prize.
-
Tailgating
Party – Team
members purchased a delicious lunch complete with a pulled pork sandwich,
chips, pickle and root beer for only $4.
With
these activities, team member pledges and its annual corporate gift,
Tastefully Simple donated more to the United Way than ever before … and showed
what it takes to be a champion!

Henry's Foods
Henry's Foods employees found several ways to create
some great fun while raising money for United Way. Employees donated a
variety of items for a Silent Auction. The unique twist was that on the
last day the bids really did go silent and people were required to place their
bid in a box, hoping that they had placed the highest bid on the item they
really wanted.
Henry's Foods donated an assortment of items which
were placed in a raffle. The highlight of the raffle was Viking tickets.
 |
As a company Henry's decided
to create a cookbook. Employees were asked to submit some of their
favorite recipes which were then compiled into a cookbook. Also
included was the history behind Henry's Foods, Inc. The
cookbook includes many local favorites along with some very unusual
recipes such as Elephant Stew, Bev's special Pizza etc. All
funds from the sale of the cookbook were donated to Heart of Lakes United
Way. |
Henry's still has some cookbooks available, so if
you would like to purchase one you can contact Anita Kovar at Henry's Foods
320-763-2685 or email her at
akovar@Henry'sFoods.com.
ITW Heartland
ITW started their festivities off with a Pizza Feed
at noon for all employees. In addition, raffle ticket sales
kicked-off with the grand prize of $100 in Chamber Bucks.
Tuesday was Purple Pride Day with employees wearing
purple or their choice of color, to support their favorite football team.
Contests and prizes were held in each building.
Thursday employees had a Chili Feed/Potluck with
judging for the best chili.
Friday, employees were treated to a Golf
Scramble/Vendor appreciation Outing. Two lucky employees who had already
contributed $52.00 to United Way during the week were eligible for a drawing to
win green fees which were paid by Heartland.
Echo Press
Employees at Echo Press put together many baskets
for a Silent Auction. One employee even offered a guided fishing trip as
an auction item.
Another employee made here very special apple crisp
and sold pieces for $1.00. Mmm...doesn't that sound like a delicious way
to raise funds for United Way?
KIKV & Kool 94.3
Management offered a day off to every employee who
donated $52 or two days off it they donated $104!
After a presentation by Campaign Chair Mike
Scarborough, the employees held their annual potluck.
Dave Vagle also offered the station to do a calling
blitz to help reach our goal this year.
Sertoma
Sertoma received a donation in honor of Tom Schmitt,
who was given the Service to Mankind Award in 2004. Tom was such a loyal
volunteer at the United Way office for the past 4 years.
Sertoma turned over the donation to the United Way
to be used for the purchase of equipment. A cordless phone/fax/answering
machine and key board try have been purchased with the money so far.
Subway
On November 3rd at all three Subway locations $1.00
from the sale of all 12" subs and $.50 from the sale of each 6" sub was donated
to Heart of Lakes United Way.
Subway set out jars on their counters for customers
and employees to donate loose change to the Heart of Lakes United Way.
On Sunday, December 5th at all Alexandria Subway
locations, if you dropped off a blanket you would get a FREE sub.
Glik's
On the night of their sneak preview, Alexandria's
newest clothing department store, donated 5% of their sales to Heart of Lakes
United Way.
Wells Fargo Bank
Some of the creative things that Wells Fargo did to
raise money for Heart of Lakes United Way:
- Raffle
- Balloon Prize -A paper was placed in
balloons and employees paid $1 for each balloon and received the prize
inside.
- Jean Day - Employees paid $3 for the first
Friday of each month and could wear jeans for the day.
- Football Board

3M United Way Fun Events
3M employees planned
several events during their United Way campaign. They held a Silent
Auction, served a scrumptious BBQ Lunch, enjoyed a "Paid Day-Off" Raffle
and tempted their co-worker's taste buds with a Bake Sale. One of the
employees embroiders a beautiful set of dish towels each year which are always
sought after and bring a generous donation.
The favorite in the Silent Auction was the
cheesecake. Often when there is a favorite food up for auction work teams
will pool resources and try to out bid one another for a team meal. Designated
team reps keep an eye on the bidding status and continue bidding exchanges often
until that last second of bidding deadline. Winning bid came from the
office girls who teamed up with the final bid for $80.00. Employees had a
cheesecake party with everyone present and the donators served. Fun was
had by all!
On pledge day they
sponsored a 3M
Chili Cook-off competition. The winner then participated in the United Way
Chili Kick-off event at the mall and once again took home the honor of
People's Choice.
