Tastefully Simple

"Giving Is Groovy" for United Way

Tastefully Simple again planned a week of activities around raising funds for United Way.  This year's theme was "Giving is Groovy," with a 1970's focus for all the activities.  Through the events, Tastefully Simple raised $919.35 which was added to team pledges of $28,636.

Tastefully Simple kicked off a week filled with fun, fundraising and team-building activities, such as:

  •     Chili Cook-Off - One of the highlights of the week was the Annual Chili Cook-Off.  Team members were encouraged to bring in a pot of their favorite chili.  The entries were judged and everyone was invited to buy a bowl or sample cup of chili for lunch.  This event raised $425, and Linda Baltes from our Conference, Events and Travel Team was crowned the 2005 Chili Queen and went on to represent Tastefully Simple at the United Way Chili Cook-Off at the Broadway Ballroom.

  •      Penny Wars – Penny Wars continued all week.  Each team filled a jar with pennies or paper currency and added silver coins to other teams' jars to sabotage their chances of winning.  Though the team with the most points at the end of the week won bragging rights, everybody was a winner since all of the change was cashed in and donated to the United Way.

  •      '70s Casual Day– New this year was a '70s casual day.  For a $1.00 donation all team members wore their grooviest '70s gear or casual attire.  The foxiest outfits were given gift certificates to a gas station.

  •      Groovy Games on the Green – A variety of outdoor games were played where winners were awarded restaurant or coffee shop certificates.  These events were fun team-building events, in addition to raising money and awareness for United Way.

Again this year, team members received incentives for pledging through payroll deduction, including paid days off and reserved parking spaces during the winter.  37% of team members pledged through payroll deduction for 2006, a 3% increase over 2005!

Bremer Bank

Bremer Bank held their Kick-Off with an assortment of events.  They formed four teams and held a Chili Cook-off.  The winner then entered the United Way Chili Feed Cook-off held at the Broadway Ballroom.  They took home the prize for the Open Division which is on display in the bank.  Their teams are as follows:

On Sept. 20, United Way plant meetings were held.  Linda Roles, Executive Director of Heart of Lakes United Way; Corliss Stark, 2005 Campaign Chair and Sheriff Ingebretsen joined us in the afternoon regarding Douglas County needs.  They did an informational presentation focusing on meth in Douglas County and it's destructive path for users and their families.

Another event included a  Paid Day Off Raffle, which was won by a new employee.  There is nothing like winning an extra day of vacation.

A Bake Sale wrapped up the events on Sept. 22.  3M has several generous and awesome bakers and plenty of hungry co-workers who enjoyed a wide variety of treats.

3M also participated in United Way's Annual Chili Cook-off on September 27 at Broadway Ballroom.
