In recent
years United Way has expanded its focus to provide a
proactive component called Community Impact, which deals
with the root causes of the
most serious problem and allows us to be part of the
solution. This program has gathered
individuals from across community --government,
business, schools, faith, non-profits and ordinary
citizens- to form the Community Impact Coalition to
address the most critical needs identified by the
community.
Currently
our Community Impact focus is on poverty. This group is
addressing the following areas of poverty: education,
income, and health. These are the building blocks for a
good life--quality education that leads to a stable job,
enough income to support a family through retirement,
and good health.
EDUCATION
- Help children and youth achieve their potential
through education by supporting the learning,
development and sense of belonging of children and youth
so that they become responsible adults.
INCOME
- Promote financial stability and independence to ensure
basic human needs of food, housing, clothing and safety
are met.
HEALTH
- Improve people's health through higher levels of
positive health.
The
Community Impact Coalition meets the fourth Thursday
of every month from 3 - 4:30pm at our United
Way Office.
