Imagination Library Comes to Douglas and Pope Counties

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is all about inspiration and imagination.

Imagination Library allows for children, from the day they are born, to receive an age-appropriate book every month until their fifth birthday. Children that reside in Douglas or Pope Counties can enter the program at any time. There are no selection criteria other than residency. All children under age five are eligible to register. Books are shipped directly to the children at no cost to the family.

Studies show:

·        Kids exposed to reading on a regular basis during preschool years have a vocabulary of 10,000 words before age 5, compared to only 3,000 for children who haven’t had this exposure.

·        Preschool reading and parent involvement is among the most important steps toward a child’s success in school.

·        When books are in the home, parents are four times more likely to read to their children

This program was created as a proactive approach to help children achieve success in education and life; and it has spread with great success to communities throughout the United States and Canada.

United Way is committed to nurturing children and youth.  Implementing Imagination Library locally, will demonstrate our commitment in this area.

Our goals are to register all children in Douglas and Pope Counties for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library; get all children in Douglas and Pope Counties one step closer to being successful when they enter school; and foster an environment in homes and daycare centers that encourages reading and includes adult involvement.

United Way wants to ensure children have positive developmental opportunities so that they start school with the tools needed to succeed.   Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is a unique opportunity to do something simple and powerful for preschoolers. By inspiring parents to read to their children, we can help them Dream More, Learn More, Care More and Be More
